Brian Robinson writes that ODNI’s Project Interoperability seeks to provide both public and private organizations with a toolkit to make existing information systems work together.
âWe see it as a living project that can change in real-time as requirements and customer needs change,” said Michael Kennedy, ODNI director for architecture and interoperability, according to GCN.
Interoperability is also a focus for the Defense Department as the military seeks to help create a joint environment for warfighters and the intelligence community (click here to read our previous coverage).
ODNI designed a module that outlines domain requirements for infrastructures, security and applications under the Federal Enterprise Architecture framework.
The office also built a maturity model with the goal of helping agencies test mission-based reference architectures against standards set by the Information Sharing Environment program.
âItâs not our intention to force this on anyone, and organizations are free to choose to use anywhere between all or none of these tools,â Kennedy added, according to Robinson’s article.
âEach tool will provide for a different level of interoperability.”
