Defense Department Deputy Secretary Robert Work discussed the Pentagon’s innovation program during his visit to the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, DoD News reported Tuesday.
Cheryl Pellerin writes Work began his two-day New England trip Monday at the collegeâs China Maritime Studies Institute and Halsey Alpha Research Group to talk about the Defense Innovation Initiative, which aims to promote U.S. military power and improve regional security.
He also paid a visit to the Rhode Island-based Naval Undersea Warfare Center, where he spoke with academic and military officials about the institutionâs research and development efforts concerning electronic warfare, unmanned underwater systems and torpedoes.
Work witnessed research on new concepts and advanced systems that could prove useful to operations related to national security during his Tuesday visit to the federally funded Lincoln Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
