NSF said in a Sept. 3 Federal Register notice the goal is to increase the number of collaborative programs that are formed through the Obama administration’s National Big Data Research and Development Initiative.
According to NSF, the hubs would serve as a bridge for public and private entities to share big data technology and strategies and develop results-driven programs.
The network would also support training and educational programs for data scientists as well as for information technology end-users, according to the agency.
NSF will accept public comments through Nov. 1.
