The U.S. Defense Department wants to revamp the way it acquires weapons as it intends to form procurement strategies based on affordability, DoD Buzz reported Friday.
Kris Osborn writes Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said he would collaborate with Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin Dempsey to review options and management of defense strategy, posture and investments.
ACarter told a Center for Strategic and International Studies audience Thursday the review would assess the DoDâs Better Buying Power program, according to DoD Buzz.
âEverythingâs on the table: roles and missions, war planning, business practices, force structure, personnel and compensation, acquisition and modernization investment, how we operate, how we measure and maintain readiness,â Carter said, according to the report.
âWe want people to think of creative ways to create a competitive environment for industry, so that there is a reason for people to work harder to keep the business that they have,â said Frank Kendall, undersecretary for acquisition, technology and logistics, according to the report.
