The Missile Defense Agency and the U.S. Navy conducted Flight Test Aegis Weapon System 32, also known as Stellar Laelaps, on March 28.

The test saw the detection, tracking and defeat of a threat-representative medium range ballistic missile — or MRBM — by a pair of Standard Missile-6 Dual II with Software Upgrade missiles during the terminal phase of flight, MDA said Thursday.

The MRBM was launched by Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands in Hawaii while the SM-6 missiles were fired by USS Preble, which came equipped with the Aegis Baseline 9.C2 capability.

The test also saw participation by the Australian military. The Anzac-class frigate HMAS Stuart demonstrated its radar capabilities while an Australian E-7 Wedgetail aircraft provided communication and data collection support.

Also involved in the event was USS Jack H. Lucas, whose participation was in support of its initial operational test and evaluation. Jack H. Lucas is the first Flight III Aegis destroyer equipped with a SPY-6 radar.
