Thomas Mahnken, the current Jerome E. Levy Chair of Economic Geography and National Security at the U.S. Naval War College, will join the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments as president and CEO by March 2016.
He succeeds Andrew Krepinevich, who founded and has led CSBA since 1993, the Washington-based defense and national security research organization said Friday.
Mahnken has taught strategy at NWC and at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies for almost 20 years and previously worked as deputy assistant secretary for policy planning at the Defense Department, where he developed Quadrennial Defense Review and National Defense Strategy reports.
He also spent 20 years as a U.S. Navy Reserve officer and his previous assignments included tours in Kosovo and Iraq.
Mahnken has also authored several publications about the concept of strategy.
