Mike Locatis

The Department of Homeland Security has selected Mike Locatis assistant secretary for cybersecurity and communications, Federal News Radio reports.

Locatis currently is chief information officer at the Energy Department and joined DOE in 2010.

He will assume the responsibilities of former DHS assistant secretary Greg Schaffer, who led the department’s National Protection and Program Directorate.

Schaffer left DHS in May after more than two years of service.

In his new post, Locatis will be responsible for coordinating the department’s cybersecurity and communications office, including the National Cyber Security Division, the Office of Emergency Communications and the National Communications System.

He will also work among the private and public sectors to coordinate national cybersecurity and communications infrastructure relief efforts.
