Astronauts used a robotic arm to grab the Cygnus capsule loaded with 1,300 pounds of supplies, including food and clothing, and attach the cargo ship to the ISS, NASA said Sunday.
NASA launched the Cygnus atop the Orbital-made Antares rocket from the Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia Sept. 18 as part of a demonstration flight project.
The agency’s commercial orbital transportation services program is intended for low Earth orbit missions to address the needs of industry and government customers.
Orbital will carry out eight resupply flights to the ISS under a $1.9 billion contract with the space agency.
