Effective Thursday, Canellos will serve as acting director and Bergers will serve as acting deputy director.
Aruna Viswanatha writes any appointment for a permanent director is likely on hold until the Senate confirms Mary Jo White as agency commissioner.
According to Bloomberg, Canellos succeeds his former boss Robert Khuzami, who is stepping down after four years at the helm.
Canellos joined the division in April after leading the SEC’s New York City office for three years.
Bergers previously led the agency’s Boston office for six years prior to this appointment, Bloomberg reports.
