CongressThe Senate Armed Services Committee was slated to discuss the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army budgets for major programs Wednesday amid concerns over capacity and modernization shortfalls, Breaking Defense reported Tuesday.

SASC Chairman Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Ranking Member Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) asked top officials from the two branches to discuss programs such as the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, A-10 and F-35 before the full committee, Colin Clark writes.

The report said a source pointed to the hearing’s overall focus on the potential effect of the current acquisition lineup on the military services’ ability to carry out the National Military Strategy.

Meanwhile, Clark reports that a separate hearing by the SASC seapower subcommittee could focus on the Littoral Combat Ship and Ohio Replacement Program.
