David Perera writes that NIST will allocate $5 million of that funding for projects to develop encryption and networking protocols under its fiscal 2015 budget proposal.
NIST has also asked for $45 million in funding for cybersecurity standards and research and development programs, according to the report.
The agency seeks $928.3 million in total discretionary spending, which is comprised of $693.7 million for scientific and technical services, $174.5 million for industrial technology services and $60 million for research facilities, Fierce Government reports.
Perera writes the NIST also plans to update information assurance standards amid the growth of federal mobile devices and take into account various network endpoint operations using continuous monitoring tools.
