The TRI list is available to the public and was set up as part of the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA) of 1986. It gives citizens access to information on toxic chemical releases and waste management activities. Currently there are almost 650 chemicals on the TRI list.
The EPA believes these new chemicals âare reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens.â Communities have the right to be informed what toxic chemicals are being released into the environment.
After the new chemicals appear in the Federal Register the EPA will be accepting public comments and feedback on the proposed list for 60 days. To see the full list of the 16 new chemicals visit: http://www.epa.gov/tri/lawsandregs/ntp_chemicals/index.html
