The administration is now saying the new measures will do little to help cybersecurity and are seeking their removal from future appropriations bills, according to an FCW article.
The new rules “could prove highly disruptive without significantly enhancing the affected agencies’ cybersecurity,” said White House spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden.
“While the administration has raised concerns about the cyber threats emanating from China, resolving this issue requires open dialogue between the U.S. and China,” she added.
The measures that were originally proposed by Rep. Frank Wolf still must be implemented because they are now the law of the land.
The Obama administration was joined by industry in its disapproval of the new measures as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, TechAmerica wrote a letter to Congress.
