The Professional Services Council has announced the creation of a commission that will identify the barriers to effective and innovative government procurement, according to an FCW article.
âOur objective in forming this commission is to articulate the ways in which the government can align the federal acquisition process for servicesâsuch as IT or engineering servicesâwith program outcomes to create a sustainable acquisition ecosystem,â said Robin Lineberger, CEO of federal government services at Deloitte and co-chair of the commission.
The commission, composed of 17 PSC board of directors, will address Congressional concerns about complications of IT Procurement and an insufficient procurement process.
According to the article, a large percentage of the federal acquisition workforce is nearing retirement, which could leave inexperienced procurement officers to deal with with increasingly complex IT projects.
“In light of this problematic combination of forces and concerns, and the consistency of those concerns over an entire decade, we believe it is the right time for a serious reassessment of how the federal acquisition workforce is educated and trained,” PSC said.
The commission will start meeting in February and conclude its business by March.
