Navy Cyber Forces will move into a Suffolk, Va. building once occupied by the former Joint Forces Command, with relocation scheduled to start in August 2013.
NCF said its mission is to provide the branch capabilities in C5I (command, control communications, computers, combat systems and intelligence) as well as a trained cyber workforce to support fleet readiness and missions in cyberspace.
The command has called Virginia Beach-based Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story home since its February 2010 inception and NCF leaders are working with Suffolk officials including Mayor Linda Johnson to coordinate the move.
âWe want to ensure a smooth transition for our Navy Cyber Forces Sailors and their families, as well as for the residents of Suffolk,â said Rear Adm. Gretchen Herbert, commander of Navy Cyber Forces.
âIt is an honor and a privilege to welcome these heroes to our community as they protect and defend the freedoms we hold dear,” Johnson said.
Joint Forces closed its doors in August 2011 and most of its functions were moved to the Joint Staff and other commands.
