Charles Verdon, former principal associate director at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, has been sworn in as deputy administrator for defense programs at the Department of Energy‘s National Nuclear Security Administration.
In his new role, he will lead the security agency’s efforts to deter modern nuclear threats facing the country and manage nuclear stockpiles in collaboration with the Defense Department, the DOE said Tuesday.
The physicist was nominated to the role in February and confirmed by the Senate in September.
Verdon oversaw DOE and NNSA weapons programs during his time at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
He has served as a fellow of the American Physical Society for over 20 years.
