Lisa Hershman, acting chief management officer of the Department of Defense, said at her confirmation hearing that the department can improve its supply chain strategy by categorizing goods and services acquisition, Defense News reported Tuesday.
Hershman, who was nominated to serve as DoD CMO on a permanent basis in August, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that she seeks to streamline the issuance of different contracts that may fall under the same vendor. She noted that this may save the department almost $18 million.
âWe have a large DoD-wide category management reform initiative underway,â she said. âWe are looking at everything from what type, how many contracts we have for certain goods and services.”
Hershman assumed the role of acting CMO in December 2018.
