Philip Cullom, deputy chief of naval operations for fleet readiness and logistics, has been nominated to the role of Defense Department assistant secretary for energy, installations and environment.

President Barack Obama announced Thursday Cullom’s nomination along with other administration posts.

Cullom has held his naval operations role since 2012 after he served as director of the U.S. Navy’s energy and environmental readiness division from 2010 through 2012 and as director of the fleet readiness division between 2008 and 2010.

He was previously the commander of Carrier Strike Group Eight between 2007 and 2008.

The three-decade naval officer also commanded the USS Mitscher during the Kosovo Crisis, Amphibious Squadron 3 and the first Expeditionary Strike Group during the Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom operations.
