1 min read

InnovationLightBulbOfficials of the Defense Department and its Defense Innovation Unit Experimental pilot program met earlier this week to discuss focus areas for their efforts to boost innovation and government-industry technology partnerships, DoD News reported Wednesday.

Terri Moon Cronk writes that Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work, Pentagon acquisition chief Frank Kendall, DIUx military deputy Rear Adm. Brian Hendrickson and DIUx Director George Duchak discussed collaborations between DoD and Silicon Valley.

“Innovation in areas such as big data, analytics, autonomy and robotics is going on in [Silicon Valley] and we want to tap into it,” Work said, according to the report.

He added that DIUx will work to help industry innovators pursue opportunities that contribute to the national security mission.

Cronk reports that DIUx also serves as a hub for DoD to access commercial technologies and integrate them with military systems to develop dual-use technologies.
