A defense spending bill passed by House lawmakers contains several provisions aimed at helping small firms to access more federal contracts and subcontracts, GovExec reported Tuesday.
Charles Clark writes that the House’s fiscal year 2015 National Defense Authorization Act includes a measure that would reserve 25 percent of federal contracting dollars to small businesses, an increase from the current 23-percent goal.
The legislation would also establish a 40-percent target for awarding subcontract work to small firms.
“The contracting amendments offered to the NDAA are common-sense reforms that will provide opportunities for small companies trying to break into the federal marketplace,†said Rep. Sam Graves, the House Small Business Committee’s chairman, according to GovExec.
Clark reports that a Senate version of the bill seeks to reauthorize a comprehensive small business subcontracting program.
