Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel will take a pay cut during the upcoming furlough as a “show of solidarity with civilians,” according to a Gov Exec article.
Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said Hagel will forfeit part of his salary as the furlough period begins in mid-June.
According to Omaha.com, Hagel made over $1 million last year and his overall assets are between $2.8 million and $6.1 million.
Originally set at 22 days, the Pentagon recently announced it is cutting eight furlough days.
Other officials that announced plans to take a pay cut include Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, Rep. Tammy Duckworth. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, President Obama and Sen. Lindsey Graham.
