Former State Rep. Grier Martin Named Acting Defense Commissary Agency Director, CEO

Grier Martin, the executive performing the duties of the assistant secretary of defense for manpower and reserve affairs since March, has been appointed acting director and CEO of the Defense Commissary Agency.

Martin will succeed Bill Moore, who retired in March after nearly three years in the role, and will be responsible for overseeing the commissary agency’s overall operations and 14,000 global personnel, DeCA said Wednesday.

The U.S. Army veteran currently serves as the principal adviser to the secretary of defense and the undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness on matters related to manpower and resources.

He leads the development of plans, programs and policies for the total Force and oversees career life cycle management for the Department of Defense’s military and civilian personnel.

Martin joined the Pentagon in July 2022 after serving as a member of the North Carolina General Assembly for 17 years.
