Sens. David Perdue, R-Ga.; Edward Markey, D-Mass.; Mark Warner, D-Va.; Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.; and Tom Cotton, R-Ark., have addressed the country’s cyber officials on hospitals’ protection against cyber attacks.
The senators asked U.S. Cyber Command and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to better protect U.S. medical organizations against cyber attacks due to recent threats enacted by malicious entities, Warner’s office said Tuesday.
The message follows reports of hacking campaigns launched by China, Iran, North Korea, Russia and terrorist groups against medical research institutions and care providers. Cyber actors have pursued espionage, COVID-19 disinformation and ransomware activities against medical facilities.
Warner, a three-time Wash100 Award recipient, and his bipartisan group of senators request USCYBERCOM and CISA to support the cyber technical needs across states and publicly release threat information to increase national awareness.
