Ajay Banga Nominated to Lead World Bank

President Joe Biden has nominated business leader Ajay Banga to serve as president of the World Bank.

Biden said in a statement published Thursday that Banga has over 30 years of experience overseeing global companies that help generate investments in developing economies and driving public-private resources to address climate change and other urgent challenges.

Banga is vice chairman at global growth equity firm General Atlantic. He joined General Atlantic after serving as president and CEO of Mastercard.

He is chairman of Exor, independent director at Singapore-based investment firm Temasek, a member of the Trilateral Commission and a founding trustee of the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum.

He is also honorary chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce, co-founder of the Cyber Readiness Institute and vice chair of the Economic Club of New York.

Banga previously served as a member of the Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity during the Obama administration.
