Ian Kalin, chief data officer of the Commerce Department, has said the new Commerce Data Service initiative seeks to apply the department’s data resources toward efforts to drive U.S. technological innovation and competitiveness.
Kalin wrote in a blog entry posted Monday that Tyrone Grandison, formerly a Presidential Innovation Fellow at the Labor Department, will lead the initiative across the department’s 12 bureaus.
Grandison will serve as deputy chief data officer and work with the team to develop new tools and advance standards in order to accelerate the delivery of information to users, Kalin said.
He added that the Commerce Data Service needs more data experts to support the mission, including front-end developers, back-end engineers and data scientists.
