The Department of Veterans Affairs has launched the VA Innovators Network to provide a platform for its employees to collaborate on the development, test and evaluation of best practices in service delivery.

Veterans Affairs Secretary Bob McDonald wrote in a blog entry posted Nov. 16 that the network aims to help the department bolster its healthcare services to veterans.

The VA Innovators Network utilizes the human-centered design for the development of products and services aligned with the needs of customers.

McDonald added Wednesday the network will pilot at eight medical centers across the U.S. in efforts to empower VA employees and create a culture of innovation.

“If we are serious about innovation and delivering value to veterans, we must invest in the beating heart of our organization—our employees,” he said.

The pilot includes employee teaching and training programs and the installation of an innovation specialist at each pilot site.
