The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has announced plans to launch Intelligence.gov as an online tool to improve public access to information from the Intelligence Community, FCW reported Wednesday.

Aleida Fernandez writes ODNI’s plan for the website is part of the third Open Government National Action Plan the White House released Tuesday in an effort to advance transparency and civic participation in the government.

“We believe transparency is worth the cost because if the American people don’t understand what we are doing, why it’s important and how we’re protecting their privacy and civil liberties, we will lose their confidence and that will affect our ability to perform our mission, which ultimately serves them,” said DNI James Clapper.

Under the national action plan, ODNI will present intelligence information on Intelligence.gov in plain language and provide links to other IC websites, Fernandez reports.

The document coincides with the release of ODNI’s implementation plan for the Principles of Intelligence Transparency for the Intelligence Community.
