Democrats have called on Republican lawmakers to raise the budget for non-defense agencies during a rally at the Capitol building, GovExec reported Wednesday.
Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) have pushed for the passage of a budget agreement in October to remove budget cuts just in time before House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) leaves his post, Eric Katz reports.
Spending caps are set to take effect in fiscal year 2016, Katz reports.
Lowey said government agencies will be forced to shut down if the Republicans fail to lift the budget caps, GovExec reports.
