Rear Adm. Robert Girrier, formerly deputy commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet in Hawaii, has been appointed as director of unmanned weapons systems for N99 within the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert announced Girrier’s new assignment on Friday.

The 32-year Navy veteran served as director for operations at the U.S. Pacific Command before he took the roles of deputy commander and chief of staff of the Pacific Fleet in September 2013.

He was also a vice commander of Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command prior to his sea tours as commander of the Carrier Strike Group 7, USS Ronald Reagan Strike Group and Carrier Strike Group 11, USS Nimitz Strike Group.

Girrier also commanded Destroyer Squadron 15, USS Roosevelt and USS Guardian.
