Sandia National LaboratoriesThe Energy Department has released a new procurement request for the management and operations of the Sandia National Laboratories before Lockheed Martin‘s contract to run the facility expires in April 2017, Albuquerque Business First reported Friday.

Dan Mayfield writes the contract has an estimated annual value of $27 million and follows several extensions to the Lockheed contract, which was originally set to end in 2013.

The report said Boeing and Fluor have previously expressed interest in bidding for the upcoming five-year contract to run Sandia.

Sandia, which is located in New Mexico, has an operating budget of at least $2.5 billion, Mayfield writes.
