The Office of Personnel Management has given the Defense Department the authority to hire 3,000 staffers in cybersecurity for all DoD components including U.S. Cyber Command.
OPM said in a Federal Regiser notice published Thursday the authority covers positions in fields such as computer and electronic engineering, computer science, operations research, criminal investigations, telecommunications and IT staff.
Cybercom can also fill cybersecurity-related administrative and program positions, the notice stated.
The Pentagon’s cyber hiring authority falls under OPM’s Schedule A authority and ends Dec. 31, 2014.
