DOEJetta Wong, director of lab impact initiative within the Energy Department’s energy efficiency and renewable energy office, has been appointed as acting director of the DOE’s new office of technology transitions.

Wong will serve as technology transfer coordinator and adviser to the energy secretary on technology transfer and commercialization activities, DOE said Wednesday.

“The Office of Technology Transitions will give the department the opportunity to increase the American people’s return on investment in federally-funded science and energy research,” Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said.

The office will work to coordinate the commercialization of DOE’s research outputs and be responsible for the nearly $20 million energy technology commercialization fund.

DOE has also tasked the office to deliver a technology transfer execution plan to Congress and report annually on DOE’s technology transfer and partnership activities.

The office will also collaborate with the national laboratories and industry to transfer federally funded research from 17 DOE research facilities to the marketplace.
