The House Republican Steering Committee has endorsed Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) to be chairman of the Oversight Committee and Government Reform Committee, Politico reported Tuesday.

Jake Sherman writes Chaffetz is currently in his third term in Congress and would succeed Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) if approved by the full Republican conference.

Chaffettz beat out Ohio Republicans Mike Turner and Jim Jordan for the chairmanship, according to Politico.

House Republican leadership appointed Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin to lead the Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Steve Chabot of Ohio to chair the Small Business Committee and Rep. Devin Nunes of California to preside over the Intelligence Committee.
