Steven VanRoekel, formerly chief information officer for the federal government, will join the U.S. Agency for International Development and coordinate the government’s response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, Politico reported Friday.

According to the story by Erin Mershon, VanRoekel’s last day at the Office of Management and Budget will be Friday and hold the title of chief innovation officer at USAID, where he will act as a lead adviser to agency chief Rajiv Shah.

Lisa Schlosser, a deputy administrator, will serve as federal CIO on an acting basis and also lead the Office of E-Government & Information Technology, Mershon reports.

VanRoekel previously helped USAID coordinate its digital communications efforts in response to the 2011 famine in the Horn of Africa, according to the report.
