White House Outlines New Vision to Modernize Infrastructure

1 min read

WhiteHouseThe White House plans to roll out an initiative that aims to modernize U.S. infrastructure by fast-tracking the permit process so that local and state governments can create jobs, start building and fix roads sooner, Fedscoop reported Wednesday.

Jake Williams writes the vision was detailed in a fact sheet published just a few days after congressional auditors discussed an increasingly dwindling Highway Trust Fund used to build, operate and maintain the nation’s highways.

According to Fedscoop, money for the proposal will come from revenues in business tax reforms designed to discourage companies from outsourcing jobs from abroad.

The fact sheet published by the Office of the Secretary this week also highlights raising accountability and transparency to ensure efficiency gains through the Permits.Performance.gov website launched in 2011 and due for expansion as outlined in President Obama’s 2015 budget, the report added.
