Securities and Exchange CommissionStephanie Avakian, a former partner and securities vice chair at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, has been appointed deputy director of the Securities and Exchange Commission‘s enforcement division.

Avakian will return to the SEC where she previously served as New York branch chief for the same division and counsel to then Commissioner Paul Carey, the SEC said Thursday.

“I am delighted that [Avakian] is rejoining the agency and look forward to partnering with her to build on the many successes of our enforcement program,” said Andrew Ceresney, director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement.

Avakian, a magna cum laude from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, will begin in her new role at SEC by the end of June.

She will serve under Michael Osanto, who was picked to lead the enforcement division earlier this year.
