ChinaUSFlagsFang Fenghui, chief of the general staff for the People’s Liberation Army of China, has toured two of the U.S. Navy‘s warships during his visit to Naval Base San Diego, DoD Buzz reported Tuesday.

Richard Sisk writes that Navy officials hosted Fenghui on Tuesday for a tour onboard the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier and the USS Coronado littoral combat vessel.

Fenghui’s U.S. visit comes amid the ongoing tension between China and its neighbor countries over territorial claims.

DoD Buzz reports that Fenghui will also travel to the Pentagon within the week to meet with U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin Dempsey.

Pentagon officials say Dempsey will focus on discussing strategies to bolster U.S.-China military relations during his meeting with Fenghui.
