National Science Foundation chief Cora Marrett has urged lawmakers not to cut federal investment into science and expressed concern that other countries such as China could spend more on science by 2022, Fierce Government reported Monday.
“The rate of progress elsewhere is outpacing what we’re undertaking,” the acting director told a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing last week.
“We’re ahead of China in funding, but not rate of growth,” she added.
Ryan McDermott writes NSF is requesting $6 billion in research funding for the 2015 fiscal year, investments Marrett said directly affects the nationâs competitiveness and quality of life for citizens.
âNSF defunding results would permeate society,” she said.
