power gridThe Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has ordered the North American Electric Reliability Corp. to develop physical grid security standards for responses to threats and vulnerabilities, Homeland Security Today reported Tuesday.

Owners and operators of the Bulk-Power System will work to identify risks in the system, assess potential vulnerabilities and implement a threat response plan under the order, according to the report.

Cheryl LaFleur, acting FERC chairman, said FERC aims for those standards to boost the electric transmission grid’s recovery system, the website reports.

The agency also asked NERC to develop procedures for protecting sensitive data of critical facilities, the report says.
