GAO: OMB Must Update Federal IT Dashboard Regularly

1 min read

Computer-EngineeringThe Government Accountability Office has found that the Office of Budget and Management does not update the government’s information technology dashboard when the budget process is ongoing, Federal News Radio reported Tuesday.

Jason Miller writes that GAO cited delays to updates on the IT Dashboard could negate the tool’s purpose of providing transparency on federal tech efforts.

GAO’s report also cited inconsistencies in IT investment submissions by several agencies, according to Miller’s article.

Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel said disclosure on the site is “pre-decisional” and could affect the “confidentiality of the deliberations that are at the core of the budget-development process.”

GAO auditors recommend agencies shore up efforts to assess IT project risks and report their findings on the public dashboard, Miller writes.
