Aaron Mehta writes that Reid’s cloture motion also seeks to fast-track the confirmation process for Heather Higginbottom as deputy secretary of state for management and resources and Anne Patterson as assistant secretary of state.

Senators could vote on the nominations by Wednesday afternoon, Mehta writes.

If confirmed, James will succeed Michael Donley and become the second female to hold the branch’s top civilian post, according to the article.

She currently serves as president of Science Applications International Corp.‘s technology and engineering sector and is also a former assistant defense secretary for reserve affairs.
