Report: Mitch McConnell Eyed Sequester Replacement in Debt Ceiling Talks

us senateSenate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) entered weekend negotiations with other Senate leaders as open to replacing the sequestration budget cuts with other plans as part of a debt ceiling compromise, Defense News reported Sunday.

Lawmakers have been considering means such as federal spending cuts, program reforms and new revenues to form a $1 trillion package needed to replace the sequestration cuts, according to the report.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) recently proposed giving the Pentagon and other federal agencies more authority to enforce spending cuts but her motion failed, Defense News reports.
