JamieMorinJamie Morin, the U.S. Air Force’s chief financial officer, has been nominated to lead the Defense Department office responsible for estimating how much weapons programs cost following the retirement of Christine Fox in June, Reuters reported Thursday.

Andrea Shalal-Esa writes that if confirmed by the Senate, Morin would likely play a key role in how DoD would achieve $500 billion mandated cuts over the next 10 years under sequestration.

As CFO, Morin oversees the branch’s $700 million annual budget and 700,000 uniformed and civilian personnel.

Todd Harrison, an analyst at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, told Reuters Morin helped moderate policy debates in the Air Force as CFO.

“He was involved in all the big discussions, he knows the issues. He’s got the brain power to bring to the table,” Harrison told Reuters.

Morin also served as acting undersecretary of the Air Force until April, when Eric Fanning assumed the role in a full-time basis.
