Veterans Affairs Department logoThe Department of Veterans Affairs has launched a new effort to improve human resource development programs and information systems that manage operations and spending, Federal News Radio reported Thursday.

Jason Miller writes a Pentagon strategy inspired the VA to create a new council of manpower pooling experts that will work to identify designations of employees based on their knowledge, background and experiences.

Miller reports the VA also wants to help its enterprise data office better monitor the progress of acquisition projects that affect decision-making and management.

Glenn Haggstrom, a VA principal executive director, told the station the office works to track spending as it collects details of contracts and business cases from different storage platforms.

Haggstrom also said the agency needs to establish a principal database to standardize administration of its financial systems.
