UN Group: Intl Law Should Apply in Cyberspace

CyberStockA group of government experts assembled by the United Nations believes international law, including the UN charter, should apply in cyberspace.

The UN Group of Governmental Experts on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications met last week to discuss international security in the cyber world, a State Department spokespers0n said Friday.

Jen Psaki wrote the group agreed that high-level communication and information sharing between countries can help alleviate tension in cyberspace and build trust between parties.

The group also discussed the role of the international community in helping less-developed countries build up their cyber postures as well as creating an open and accessible cyberspace.

Psaki also said the group discussed how to apply existing international law and help guide state behavior in cyberspace.
