PentagonSamsung Electronics Co. and Apple Inc. have secured approval from the U.S. Defense Department to deploy their mobile device brands for government-wide use, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

Will Connors writes the DoD could release two separate security clearances for Samsung’s Galaxy-branded smartphones and Apple’s iPhones and iPads in the coming weeks.

South Korean firm Samsung has recently established a corporate division focused on communicating with Western governments that currently implement the Blackberry operating system, according to the report.

In April, the company’s executives and technology experts met Western government agencies, including the U.S. National Security Agency, for the first time in London to discuss new products for government networks.
