The Senate unanimously voted Wednesday to confirm Sylvia Burwell as director of the Office of Management and Budget, nearly a month after President Barack Obama nominated her to the post.

Burwell will play a key role in negotiations on Obama’s fiscal 2014 budget proposal as well as tax and spending issues facing both Congress and the White House, Federal Times reported Wednesday.

She succeeds Jeff Zients, who has led OMB on an acting basis since now Treasury Secretary Jack Lew left OMB in January 2012 to become White House chief of staff.

Sean Reilly writes Burwell served as deputy budget director during the Clinton administration.
