Retired U.S. Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal and Michael Hayden, a former CIA director and retired Air Force general, both expressed support for Chuck Hagel’s nomination as defense secretary during a Sunday TV interview.
Both McChrystal and Hayden spoke to CNN’s “State of the Union” and addressed Hagel’s military experience, which included a year-long tour in Vietnam.
Hayden said he was able to have dialogue with Hagel, who was on an oversight committee while Hayden served in the intelligence community.
McChrystal told CNN he does not think military service is a requirement to lead the Defense Department, but added such experience could help in the job.
