According to Jeremy Herb’s story, Graham has advocated for companies issuing the layoff notices to raise public concern and pressure Congress to nullify the sequestration cuts scheduled to kick in Jan. 2.
The White House announced the plans to cover the severance costs if companies do not send layoff notices 60 days in advance as required under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (click over to ExecutiveBiz for more on those plans).
Layoff notices could have come just four days before the election as required under WARN, Herb reports.
