1 min read

By unanimous vote, the Senate voted on Friday to confirm George Mason University professor Allison Macfarlane as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s new chair, Bloomberg reports.

Senators also confirmed Kristine Svinicki to serve on the commission for a second five-year term.

President Obama nominated Macfarlane to succeed Gregory Jaczko, who announced his resignation in May.

According to Bloomberg, she will be responsible for leading the agency’s 4,000 employees as they examine how to store spent nuclear fuel and implement safety rules.
